Tadej Pogačar is almost ready to start real training for the 2025 season. He is ending his off-season in Slovenia.

Monday’s “Evening of the Stars” awards show celebrated the 75th anniversary of the club where he used to play, KD Rog. The world champion talked about his plans for the rest of the year.

Pogačar told Siol.net that he will soon be going to Spain for a training camp with UAE Team Emirates after winning the award for best Slovenian rider for the fifth year in a row.

“I have a few more official events ahead of me, but then I will slowly go to the first December preparations with the team in warmer places, where we will start serious training,” he added.

“These days I need to train in a planned way for the new season,” he told RTVSlo. “I don’t want to go to training because it’s been really cold here for the past week.” But I’m glad to go to these kinds of events. Even though I’ve already won a few awards for being the best biker, I still enjoy these more and more every year.

PogaÍar had a great season in 2024, winning 25 times. He won the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Il Lombardia, the Tour de France, and the Giro d’Italia. Tol Siol, he told her that his first world title was the most important one.

“I can’t pick just one winner because there were so many good ones in the big races.” The win with the national team at the World Championships is a little more important, though, he said.

“I’ve already kept my win in a number of races.” It didn’t always work out, and it won’t be better next year either. The World Championships [in Rwanda, Ed.] might be the only race that stands out because it’s a unique event and only a few people have won it twice in a row. That has only been done by the best riders.

“It looks like the World Championships will be the hardest race to defend.” Even better, though, I can’t wait to try to win races I haven’t won yet.

Pogačar talked about his plans for next year as well as his thoughts on the current season. Their main goal will be to win a fourth Tour de France title and try to get the rainbow jersey again.

He did say, though, that a bid for Paris-Roubaix is not yet in the cards. Instead, one of his main goals will probably be to win his first Vuelta a España.

The 26-year-old has already said that he hopes next season will be “even better” than his incredibly successful 2024 season. “Exciting new things are coming my way.” I like to test myself on the bike and enjoy nature. He said last week, “It’s not hard to get yourself going.”

He added that he isn’t looking at his rivals for motivation at the moment, noting that he wants to keep improving, just as the likes of main Tour rival Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) are doing.

“I know he trains and wants to be better than previous years, but I have the same idea in mind – that I will be at least as good as I was this year.”
