Everton
After talks get better, Dan Friedkin could quickly replace Sean Dyche at Everton with Graham Potter.
Graham Potter could quickly take over as Everton manager from Sean Dyche once the transfer is finished. Thomas Tuchel was named manager of England.
i News reported on October 18 that the former Brighton and Chelsea manager was contacted by the FA before selecting the person he replaced at Stamford Bridge. The talks may have shown The Friedkin Group how quickly they need to act if they want to keep him once they are in charge of the club.
The 49-year-old Potter hasn’t had a job since April of last year, when his hectic time in West London ended. However, on September 27, he told The Telegraph that he was ready to go back to management.
The current government at Goodison Park is said to like the Englishman [TBR Football, 5 September], and he was a candidate to replace Dyche when it was suggested that Dyche should be fired early because of his terrible start to the season.
The Friedkin Group wants to change the boss of Everton.
It’s more important now to know that The Friedkin Group is said to have been talking about Potter as a possible leader for their upcoming new age on Merseyside [TEAMtalk, 27 September].
During his break, he turned down offers from clubs like Ajax [talkSPORT, April 8]. It’s possible that the national team job would have been something that would have tempted him.
Given the chaos that the current regime has caused over the last few seasons, Farhad Moshiri’s Everton probably would not have been interested. This is probably not what Potter would have wanted after what turned out to be an impossible job at Chelsea, but things should be very different under Friedkin.
Potter may not have had as much damage done to his reputation at the two-time Champions League winners because of the way things worked out there. His reputation was already good when he was taken from the Amex.
Friedkin could be a good fit for the Toffees if they don’t have to worry about money and want to get back to their former glory. He also had a good record in the Champions League at Chelsea, with wins at home and away against AC Milan and a win over Borussia Dortmund that set up a match against Real Madrid in the quarterfinals before he was fired.
Potter is ready to go back after Chelsea fired him.
It doesn’t look like Dyche will be the face of the new era under The Friedkin Group after his contract runs out in the summer. Even the former Burnley manager seems to know that he was hired for a specific reason that won’t apply anymore once the takeover goes through [Sky Sports, 5 October].
That is expected to happen by the end of November [Alan Myers, 16 October]. The fact that Potter was in talks with England does not mean he is off the market, but it does mean that he could become unavailable at any time. If the Friedkins really want him, they might decide to move faster rather than later.
