According to a report from Spain, Liverpool’s ambitious attempt to acquire Brazilian forward Rodrygo was rejected by Real Madrid.

Liverpool had submitted an offer of £100 million (€120 million) for the 23-year-old, according to the Spanish publication Sport. However, the Spanish giants rejected the offer and are currently seeking a proposal of £127 million (€150 million).

The European champions are reportedly prepared to sell Rodrygo if their valuation is met, following the arrivals of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, both of whom are capable of occupying Rodrygo’s preferred position.

The Brazilian forward’s situation underwent a significant change following his controversial comments prior to the UEFA Champions League final, in which he expressed his willingness to contemplate leaving the club if his role was reduced.

Real Madrid’s management was not amenable to these statements, particularly given that they were made during a critical period of the season.

Rodrygo had been a critical player for Real Madrid in the 2023/24 season, contributing substantially to their La Liga and UEFA Champions League victories with 17 goals and nine assists in 51 appearances. This was the case until his departure.

Nevertheless, the competition for starting positions is intensifying, and Rodrygo may soon find himself surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu. Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham are essentially undroppable.

Liverpool has previously been associated with Rodrygo. In reality, the Reds’ interest in him has been ongoing for an extended period.

Elano, a former Manchester City player who managed Rodrygo at Santos, disclosed that Liverpool had demonstrated a significant interest in the youthful talent during his early career.

Nevertheless, his relocation to the Spanish capital in June 2019 was precipitated by the more compelling offer from Real Madrid at the time.

Liverpool will be eager to acquire his services in order to enhance their attacking capabilities, particularly in light of the uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of both Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, if the Brazilian decides to eventually relocate to the Premier League.
