After Manchester United’s draw with Aston Villa, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already talked about why Erik ten Hag was fired.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already said what he thinks about Erik ten Hag’s future as boss of Manchester United.
Ten Hag’s future in the Old Trafford bench has been the subject of a lot of talk over the last few weeks. United has only won two of its first seven Premier League games this season, and it has only eight points.
United was held to a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Sunday. The Reds have now gone four Premier League games without scoring. This came after a 3–3 Europa League draw with Porto and a 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur the previous weekend.
In the West Midlands, United and Villa Park played to a scoreless draw. Ratcliffe was there, along with CEO Omar Berrada, sports director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox. An chat with the BBC that took place in Barcelona earlier this week with the United co-owner talked about Ten Hag’s future.
“Ask me again later. Asking the BBC if he thought United could fire Ten Hag, Ratcliffe said, “I like Erik.”
It’s not up to me to decide if he’s a good coach or not. The people in charge of Manchester United have to decide how to best run the team in a lot of different ways.
“But United’s board of directors has only been together since June or July.” That’s right—Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth weren’t there in January, February, March, or April. They didn’t get there until July.
You could almost say they’ve only been there for a few weeks. Since they haven’t been there for a while, they need to take stock and decide what to do. Our goal is very clear.
“Manchester United isn’t where it should be yet, but we want to get it there.” That’s completely clear.
