After making a U-turn, Manchester United is becoming increasingly likely to engage in contract talks with Erik ten Hag.
Erik ten Hag’s contract with Manchester United may be extended as the final phases of INEOS’ season review approach.
Manchester United have reportedly not established a deadline for making a final decision regarding Erik ten Hag’s future, despite the previous anticipation that an announcement would be imminent. Additionally, the Dutchman is rumored to be in the process of negotiating a new contract at Old Trafford if INEOS continues to support him beyond the summer.
United’s unexpected FA Cup victory over Manchester City, which was achieved through an academy double from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, occurred two weeks ago.
The status of Ten Hag was the primary focus of media attention during the lead-up to the event, and it has continued to be the case following the historic event at Wembley Stadium.
Nevertheless, supporters are becoming increasingly agitated by the absence of clarity as INEOS continues to contemplate whether to remain in the dugout or pivot at the outset of their administration.
The Guardian reported on Wednesday that United were expected to make a decision regarding Ten Hag by the end of the week.
It was previously asserted that the post-season review conducted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS would not extend into the following week. However, this has since been confirmed.
The Manchester Evening News has recently published a report that reports that the review will not be completed until a comprehensive analysis of the 2023/24 campaign is completed.
It is anticipated that the 54-year-old will engage in negotiations for a new contract if INEOS elects to grant Ten Hag the final year of his contract.
The likelihood of that outcome is increased as the review is postponed.
However, Ten Hag, who is presently on vacation, is reportedly equally eager to obtain clarity as the fanbase and other club personnel.
INEOS is unlikely to dismiss the Dutchman if they do not consider that any potential replacement represents an upgrade.
The report also indicates that United’s new decision-makers are hesitant to make a hasty decision in the absence of a clear succession plan, indicating that there are presently no standout candidates.
In recent weeks, the Red Devils have reportedly engaged in discussions with potential replacements, both prior to and during the evaluation of the previous season.
Kieran McKenna was one of the candidates; however, he committed his future to Ipswich Town by penning a new contract, having overseen back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.
Gareth Southgate is a highly anticipated candidate; however, he will not be made available until after he leads England to Euro 2024, which will extend until mid-July.
In the event that United elect to separate ways with Ten Hag, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, and Roberto De Zerbi have also been suggested as potential targets.
