After Erik ten Hag was fired, Manchester United players said the same thing.
One Manchester United player who has thanked former boss Erik ten Hag since he was fired on Monday morning is Mason Mount.
The difficult £60 million deal for Mount from Chelsea was one of the Dutchman’s bad decisions in the transfer market, and he paid the price for it in the end.
Since coming to Old Trafford in 2023, the 25-year-old player has had a terrible time. Injuries have slowed his growth and made it harder for Ten Hag to shape him.
The Dutch coach liked Mount’s skills ever since seeing him play against Ajax while on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.
But their friendship is over now that Ten Hag was fired after United’s 2-1 loss at West Ham United on Sunday by United CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth.
After a disappointing eighth-place finish the previous season, Ten Hag’s time at United ended quickly after a string of bad results, including four losses in the first nine league games of the season.
Mount, who played 25 times under Ten Hag and only scored one goal and set up one others, is now seen as one of the less successful signings, along with Antony, who cost £82 million.
But when it was announced that Ten Hag was leaving, Mount said goodbye to his old boss on Instagram by writing, “Thank you gaffer.” “Good luck with everything in the future.”
Several of his teammates thanked the Dutchman on social media, and the former Chelsea star, who is currently out with an injury, wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
The leader of the team, Bruno Fernandes, said, “Thanks for everything, boss!” I’m grateful for your faith and the times we spend together. Best of luck to you in the future.
“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club!”
Rasmus Hojlund, who joined United with Mount under Ten Hag, also said goodbye by writing, “Thanks for everything boss.” Best wishes for the future.”
Also thanking the boss, Alejandro Garnacho said, “Thank you for everything, boss.” Thank you so much for giving me the chance and the courage to play for this club.
It hasn’t turned out the way we wanted it to, but I will always remember the good times we had together. Have a great day.” I appreciate it, Erik.”
Kobbie Mainoo also expressed gratitude and hope by saying, “Thank you for trusting me and believing in me, and for giving me the chance to play for my childhood club.” Best wishes for the future.”
