After Beto’s behaviour in Everton’s loss to Southampton, Sean Dyche was “doing his nut.”

Chris Sutton thinks that Sean Dyche was “going crazy” after what happened with Beto in Southampton’s win over Everton.

It was the fifth straight win for the Toffees in the Premier League, but Russell Martin’s Saints beat them 1-0 on Saturday, November 2. Adam Armstrong scored the only goal that separated the two teams.

Even though Beto’s last-second equaliser was called off by VAR, BBC Sport commentator Sutton couldn’t figure out why the striker missed earlier in the second half, right before Armstrong scored.

“How did he miss that Beto?” he asked on It’s All Kicking Off (4 November, 18:23).

“I looked at that again, and what a miss!” The ball is volleyed across with some padding, and he’s six yards away. I always think of that player as someone who missed a lot of chances. How did he miss that?

“The ball across wasn’t too high for him; he was just not paying attention.” You hit that low and score, but he was only trying to hit it low. It hits the bar, they go down the other end, and Adam Armstrong tucks it in.

“It looks like Sean Dyche was crazy.”

It really looked like Beto’s shot was more likely to go in than not. When James Tarkowski’s header found the 26-year-old, he couldn’t have been more close to the goal.

The batter got underneath it and turned it over on the boards. Like Sutton says, Dyche must have been furious at that time, especially since Armstrong was punishing that mistake right after.

There have been times when both Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin played well for Liverpool, but the Toffees really need a number nine who can score 20 goals a season.

They need to start taking risks if they want to get out of the relegation fight this season. They lost three points at St. Mary’s on Saturday because they couldn’t finish, and that can’t happen every week.

We hope that this doesn’t have hurt Beto’s confidence in front of goal. In the past few weeks, the striker has played well when coming off the bench. It would be a shame if he let one miss ruin his form.
