Hello and welcome to this week’s Manchester United school notebook.

The Manchester Evening News covers United’s youth teams more than any other news source, and last season we tried something new by putting out an academy notebook. We didn’t bring it back until academy football started in full force in 2024–25. Now that it’s back, we’ll send our fans the notebook every week.

It’s clearly the international break, and some kids have played for their country’s youth teams. Other kids, on the other hand, have had some time off and have kept training at Carrington. Without further ado, here is a summary of the latest news from the club’s young team…

In the summer, Maxi Oyedele made a permanent move to Legia Warsaw. United let him go for a small fee, which included a large sell-on option for the future.

Oyedele went on the pre-season tour of the United States and came off the bench in each of the friendly games against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. However, he decided he had to leave United to make it in the professional game, and it’s paying off.

They are sixth in Poland’s top league, and the player has had a great start with them. As a result, they called him up to the senior national team for the first time.

Oyedele was born in Salford and played for Carrington as a boy. He is now eligible to play for Poland and made his debut for his country against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.

During his time in the school, Oyedele was sometimes hard to spot, but his skills were clear, and he has had a great start to life away from the club where he grew up.

The Swiss help three United players train.

In a deal that was just made, United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s FC Lausanne-Sport agreed to let three young players work with the Swiss club this week.

On Monday, Habeeb Ogunneye, Jack Kingdon, and Ethan Williams flew to Switzerland. They could work with Lausanne’s first team there. Because United agreed, all three 18-year-olds are doing very well in school and were given the chance to play on the youth team.

In 2017, Ineos bought Lausanne. The deal between United and Lausanne to let youth players play abroad is a part of their plan to have more than one club. The Lausanne first team is near the bottom of the Swiss top flight right now, but United’s three young players hope that working with the first team will help them improve.

Collins plays for England’s Under-20 team.

Toby Collyer is back with the first team and has been with them. Erik ten Hag and the school teachers really like the young player. During the break, he played his first game for England Under-20.

In the past, Collyer played for England’s young teams. He was recently called up to the U20 team and started both of their games against Italy and the Czech Republic.

Last month, we talked to Collyer’s old young coach at Brighton, Travis Binnion, about his growth. The article gives you a look at the 20-year-old. Collins is a good fit for the first team this season because of his size and skill level.

“Kid Messi” scores three times.

JJ Gabriel, a young player for United who goes by the name “Kid Messi,” got a hat trick for the academy on Tuesday night.

United is still at the top of developing young players, and JJ Gabriel, who just turned 14, is seen as one of the best prospects the school has ever seen. People started calling him “Kid Messi” after videos of him training and doing special moves went popular when he was younger. People are getting more and more excited about his potential.

A United youth player said Gabriel’s finishing was “unbelievable” after he scored three goals in a training game against Blackburn at Carrington on Tuesday.
