Violence reportedly erupted in the players’ family section following Colombia’s 1-0 semi-final victory in the Copa America, prompting Uruguay’s players, including Darwin Nunez, to retreat to the stands. CONMEBOL, the tournament’s administrator, has condemned the violence.

In the aftermath of Uruguay’s loss to Colombia in the semi-final of the Copa América, Darwin Nunez of Liverpool was embroiled in a physical altercation with fans.

After violence purportedly broke out in the family section of the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, Uruguay players, including Nunez, entered the stands.

As others attempted to restrain him, Nunez was observed scaling up railings before confronting Colombia fans in the footage.

The Uruguayan players claimed that they entered the stands to “rescue” their families.

Luis Suarez stated, “It is understandable that you would want to defend your family if someone is attacking you; however, this does not excuse the negative perception that was established.”

“We were obligated to safeguard our families who were present.” I observed a significant number of family members and children of my team-mates who were ensnared in the debris, and you were left feeling powerless.

“They stormed all our families, a section of Colombia fans,” Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez stated to FOX Soccer. This is a catastrophe. Our family is in jeopardy.”

Following the game, CONMEBOL issued a statement in which it expressed its unequivocal condemnation of any act of violence that has an impact on the game.

“Our work is based on the conviction that football connects and unites us through its positive values,” according to the declaration.

“Violence and intolerance are unacceptable both on and off the pitch.” We extend an invitation to all individuals to dedicate their remaining days to organising an unforgettable celebration and supporting their national teams with fervour.

Despite the fact that Colombia played the entire second half with ten men following Dani Munoz’s red card in first-half stoppage time, the team emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory, due to Jefferson Lerma’s first-half winner.

On Monday, they will compete against Argentina in the final.
