BREAKING: Jude Bellingham under investigation by Uefa over rude gesture following England’s equalizer; faces ban
England’s hero of the hour, Jude Bellingham, is at risk of a Uefa investigation for the lewd gesture he made after scoring his dramatic equaliser against Slovakia on Sunday. However, it is improbable that he will be banished. On Saturday, England advanced to a quarter-final match against Switzerland after Bellingham’s last-gasp bicycle kick forced extra time and a Harry Kane goal, which secured their spot in Euro 2024.
Bellingham was depicted on television kissing his right hand before making a crotch-grabbing gesture. However, he clarified that the gesture was “an inside-joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game” and not directed at the Slovakia bench.
He subsequently tweeted the same defence. However, Uefa has elected to request additional information and conduct a more thorough investigation. “A disciplinary investigation will be conducted by an ethics and disciplinary inspector in regards to a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, which is purported to have occurred during the course of this match,” they stated.
The FA has also been accused by Uefa of a “lack of order or discipline” by England fans and the “lighting of fireworks” by them.
