Arsenal
Manchester United and Arsenal have been given an opportunity to buy a goal machine at a reduced cost.
Big-name players in the Premier League Arsenal and Manchester United are both seeking attacking reinforcements following Benjamin Sesko’s announcement that he would not be joining either club.
Jonathan David has been consistently associated with a move to the Premier League in recent windows, and it is now possible that the Lille striker could be available at a reduced cost.
The Canadian international, who has scored 84 goals in four seasons since relocating to France, has been previously associated with both Manchester United and Arsenal. Lille’s fourth-place finish in the league was facilitated by 19 of the 26 goals he scored last season, which was the joint-best season of his career.
Both Premier League teams are currently seeking a replacement frontman. While a prolific scorer could have been the deciding factor between first and second for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, United appeared to be lacking in the front line last season and have since confirmed Anthony Martial’s departure.
Benjamin Sesko was associated with both organisations; however, he ultimately resolved to remain with RB Leipzig. That may present an opportunity for David to relocate, and at a reduced cost.
Intermediaries representing David are eager to transport him to England, as reported by talkSPORT. The 24-year-old Lille player has only one year remaining on his contract, and the same publication suggests that he could be sold for as little as £30 million.
David, who joined Lille in 2020, has scored 28 goals in 46 senior appearances for Canada, which is the second-highest total in the annals of the men’s international team. He scored nine goals during the qualifying process, which enabled Canada to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. However, they were defeated at the initial stage in Qatar.
In 2020-21, Lille emerged victorious in Ligue 1, surpassing Paris Saint-Germain in the competition. He scored three goals in the Champions League the following season, helping the team to win their division. However, they were defeated by Chelsea in the round of 16.
David’s association with the Premier League dates back several years, and his 2022 interview with Sky Sports served to intensify the fervour. “Yes, you are aware that I was consistently viewing European football on television.” Therefore, that was my perpetual objective. The American-born celebrity stated, “I was solely interested in travelling to Europe.”
“I believe that the next step is to continue to expand, to have more ambition, and to have a larger club.” All players aspire to play for a large club at some point in their lives. Therefore, I am confident that I would pursue it if given the opportunity.
“I believe that the Premier League and La Liga are distinct leagues.” However, I am confident that I can adjust to either situation. I believe that the experience I have gained in France will be extremely beneficial if I need to quickly adapt to a new environment. “So, I believe that both leagues are appropriate for me.”
