The Chelsea deal blow is of major concern for Premier League clubs, according to Stefan Borson.

Crystal Palace has become the latest team to sign a front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with a wagering company, resulting in a “significant issue” for Premier League clubs.

This is the perspective of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively disclosed to Football Insider that there are uncertainties regarding the companies that will cover the void following the implementation of the ban on gambling firms sponsoring the front of shirts at the commencement of the 2026-27 season.

Last year, the Premier League clubs collectively resolved to discontinue their sponsorships of wagering on matchday shirts.

Last season, wagering companies sponsored seven top-flight teams, including Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Brentford, Burnley, Everton, Fulham and West Ham.

After agreeing to a two-year agreement with Vietnamese company NET88, Crystal Palace became the most recent club to sign a front-of-shirt contract with a gambling firm.

Borson inquired as to the number of non-gambling organisations that will allocate millions of dollars to sponsor Premier League teams upon the ban’s implementation in two years.

Borson stated to Football Insider, “The reason clubs are continuing to negotiate these agreements is due to market factors.”

“They do not intend to locate a betting sponsor.”

“A blue chip, long-term deal is desired by all clubs.” However, they are absent.

“The primary inquiry is: What is the reason for their absence and how significant is it for the game?”

“What companies will fill the void when the ban is implemented, and five, six, or seven sponsors are likely to be absent?”

“How many non-gambling companies worldwide are likely to be willing to allocate millions of dollars annually to a Premier League team?”

“If you are unable to secure a blue chip on a player such as Chelsea, you have a significant problem.”
