BREAKING: Arsenal are considering a move for a forward who could be their next Olivier Giroud

Arsenal may be considering the acquisition of a new striker during the summer transfer window, and they have already failed to secure Benjamin Sesko.

In his GMS column, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that Arsenal continues to maintain their composure following their unsuccessful pursuit of RB Leipzig marksman Benjamin Sesko. The club has three additional candidates on their shortlist, including Joshua Zirkzee, a former Bayern Munich prospect who is currently playing for Bologna.

The Gunners are currently in pursuit of a new centre forward in order to reduce the distance between themselves and the perennial English top tier champions, as they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City for the second consecutive season.

Neither Eddie Nketiah nor Gabriel Jesus have demonstrated the necessary productivity to lead the line for the north Londoners, particularly when compared to the seasonal returns of players such as Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland.

Sesko was one of the most prominent candidates to become Arsenal’s top marksman in 2024/25. However, Jacobs has disclosed that Arteta and his team have a three-man shortlist, as the Slovenia international has now officially extended his contract with his current employers.

Before agreeing to new terms in the Bundesliga, the club was embroiled in a transfer dispute with Chelsea, his fellow Londoners. Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP, Evan Ferguson of Brighton & Hove Albion, and Zirkzee of Bologna are among the players the club is considering for acquisition during the summer trading period.

Insisting that Zirkzee, who has been characterized as a “complete forward” by scout Jacek Kulig, is reminiscent of former striker Olivier Giroud, Jacobs asserted that AC Milan are the frontrunners for his desired signature. Nevertheless, he did mention that Arsenal could be a team to monitor in the event that the Rossoneri’s interest wanes.

In 2023/24, the Dutchman made 34 appearances in Serie A, scoring 11 goals and assisting on five. He is currently available for a release clause fee of £34 million. According to Sky Sports, Manchester United is also interested in the 23-year-old’s services in order to promote Rasmus Hojlund’s development.

The Mirror reports that Gyokeres’ signature could be obtained for a mere £68.5 million, a mere fraction of the previously proposed figures. Ferguson is also a subject of interest. The Brighton forward scored six goals in 27 Premier League appearances during the previous campaign.
