Bayern Munich is in discussions with Chelsea over move for 21-year-old star
According to reports, Bayern Munich has identified Chelsea defender Levi Colwill as one of their primary targets this summer, and preliminary discussions regarding a potential transfer have already commenced.
The 21-year-old defender, who is capable of playing at both left-back and center-back, had a breakthrough season at Chelsea, appearing in 32 matches across all competitions.
Despite his previous two seasons of impressive performances during loan stints with Huddersfield and Brighton, he has now established himself as a valuable asset to the Chelsea team.
Colwill was granted his initial England uniform as a result of his contributions to the Blues; however, he was not selected for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich is contemplating making an offer for him this summer, as he has demonstrated sufficient merit to warrant their interest.
Vincent Kompany’s team does not prioritize Colwill; rather, Jonathan Tah, the centre-back of Bayer Leverkusen, is the preferred option. However, the Bavarian titans may acquire both players as part of an anticipated defensive overhaul.
Tah has only one year remaining on his contract with Leverkusen. If he fails to negotiate a new contract, the Bundesliga champions are expected to sell him this summer.
Tah, who has been with the club since 2015, could potentially depart for a rival after eventually winning the Bundesliga for the first time, which would be a frustrating loss for Leverkusen.
Chelsea is not subject to any contractual obligations to dispose of Colwill, as his contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in 2029, following an extraordinary extension last year.
The Blues are unlikely to be enthusiastic about selling the young defender; however, the temptation of the homegrown player providing unadulterated profit for Profit and Sustainability Rules will be present.
