Liverpool boss takes jibes at Man City, Chelsea and Manchester United
Tuesday’s “Danke, Jürgen” farewell event featured former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp’s criticism of a number of the club’s rivals, including Chelsea’s proprietors, Manchester United’s treatment of Jadon Sancho, and Manchester City’s alleged financial rules violations.
Klopp made his way back to the city for the farewell event held at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, nine days subsequent to his last match in command, which ended in a 2-0 triumph over Wolves at Anfield.
During his nine-year tenure, Klopp, 56, won seven significant trophies, including the Champions League trophy in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020. However, City defeated Liverpool twice by a solitary point to win the championship.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters stated on April 26 that a hearing regarding City’s alleged financial rule violations would occur in the “near future.” City has been accused with 115 violations of the league’s financial regulations.
Comedian and one of the event’s hosts John Bishop remarked, “You depart this club with a single Premier League championship.” “There could be a court decision that means you’ve won the Premier League three times…” Klopp interjected, “I am all in for a bus parade if you organize one!” “I could care less how long it takes.”
Additionally, Klopp stated that Liverpool’s failure to acquire superstars Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Erling Haaland did not bother him because such actions contradict the “Liverpool way.”
“Can you imagine LFC as the club with unlimited money?” Klopp declared. “Consider Kilian Mbappé’s arrival here.” Haaland, imagine Bellingham having arrived. It simply does not suit, and it is not us. We achieved our victories in the traditional Liverpool fashion. We engaged in challenging discussions, which other clubs failed to do at the same time.”
Klopp stated that he felt Liverpool’s proprietors supported him during his tenure at the club and added that he believed he would not have received the same level of confidence from other clubs.
“We should be really happy that we have these owners and not guys who bought London clubs and other stuff,” Klopp pointed out. I would not have made it through a year at Liverpool under their leadership.
“Excellent development, but insufficient; dismiss him!” One year later, he was fired. Then, at last, they engage in football, during which the public suspects they may return, but the manager is fired regardless.
“While it’s true that some may argue that success is achieved through hard work, we have owners who genuinely care about the club and invest a great deal of effort into its success.” I experienced support. “We performed to the best of our abilities, and that’s all right with me.”
Klopp also seemed to express disapproval regarding United’s treatment of Sancho, who was acquired from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and subsequently returned to the German club on loan last summer after a dispute with coach Erik ten Hag.
“If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player,” according to Klopp.
“I cannot just buy into that, ‘he’s useless,’ like other clubs did by the way, buying a player for £80 million ($102m) and then sending him out on loan.”
