After Phil Foden’s amazing hat-trick against Aston Villa, partner Jack Grealish had nothing but good things to say about him.

Phil Foden played another great game as Manchester City beat Aston Villa 4-1 to stay in touch with Arsenal and Liverpool, who are also in the running for the Premier League title.

City took the lead when Rodri scored in the 11th minute, but Jhon Duran scored right after to even things up. Foden scored from a free kick just before halftime to give the home team the lead again. Since Kevin De Bruyne wasn’t playing, Foden started to find room in the middle of the field. His second goal was a wide shot from inside the box.

With the win almost certain for the defending champions, Foden added the cherry on top with a powerful left-footed strikethat sealed the deal. The 23-year-old danced his way through the Villa middle and was tackled by Clement Lenglet. He got back up right away, got the ball back, and then hit a shot into the top corner while he was still down.

As of now, there aren’t many words that can be used to describe him after his second hat-trick in the Premier League this season. He even admitted something very important about his preferred position after the game. He told TNT Sport, “I see myself as a very technical player who is close to the ball.”

“I think I can do that job out wide, but I like being in the middle better.” I feel like I’m getting better at the game this year. The boss talked about getting into a rhythm and slowing down the game. I think I’ve added that to my game now.

Foden scores goals from outside the box all the time, so when he lined up to take a free kick with Julian Alvarez on the field, it was a surprise. When asked why he took the set piece, he said, “What do you know? I don’t practice them [free kicks].” I have no idea why I chose that one. When Julian was on them, I felt good about myself and asked Julian, “May I have this one?” To be fair, he gave it to me, and it worked out well.

Additionally, Foden said that Jack Grealish sent him a message from Wayne Rooney while he was enjoying his third goal. He said, “As I was celebrating and walking back with Jack, he said about the Wayne Rooney goal and that’s what it reminded him of.”

The Rooney moment in question happened in 2010 when the Manchester United player scored a beautiful goal against Newcastle United just seconds after complaining about a referee’s call.
