Man United lost 3-1 to rivals Manchester City on Sunday, which showed how far apart the two teams really are.

Casemiro, a strong midfielder for Manchester United, said that the Ineos Group should use Manchester City as “a mirror” to help bring back the good times at Old Trafford.

United lost 3-1 to their cross-city foes in the derby on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. With only 11 games left, they are 11 points behind the top four teams. Marcus Rashford scored a stunning goal to put Manchester United ahead, but the Reds were outclassed in the second half and gave up three goals without answering.

After halftime, City had 72% of the ball and had only one shot on goal against United. As Pep Guardiola’s team stepped up their game, the Reds were pushed around more and more.

As if the gap between the two clubs wasn’t big enough already, new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently promised to knock City “off their perch” after buying a 27.7% stake in the club last month. Casemiro thinks that Ratcliffe and his Ineos team should try to follow what City has done.

When asked if he had seen good things from the Ineos Group and if United still have a long way to go before they can beat City after the derby, Casemiro told ESPN Brazil, “That is the main goal. We also have to be humble enough to admit that they are the team to beat right now, not in the past, because Manchester United’s history speaks for itself.” City is the team that everyone wants to beat.

“We have a mirror here, which is City, and they have been doing a great job.”

Concerning Ineos’s arrival and the effect he thinks they will have on M16, Casemiro said, “Of course, when people from outside the club come in to add to and improve the level, it is always important.”

“It’s clear that Ineos and its new owners want to do this.” I hope they come and grow with us, because the club needs people who want to grow here.
