Man Utd star Rasmus Hojlund’s action immediately after coming off injured speaks volumes
An injury to Rasmus Hojlund could be disastrous for Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United.
Rasmus Hojlund appears to have contributed to the injury troubles of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, as the striker hobbled off in the match against Luton and proceeded directly down the tunnel for medical attention. Amidst numerous opportunities, the £72 million summer acquisition has yet to score in the Premier League for Manchester United.
Ahead of halftime, he was presented with two golden opportunities to break the deadlock against Luton. Ten Hag, however, may now be compelled to operate without the striker, as he was substituted with an injury that appeared to be serious in the middle of the second half.
Hojlund approached the target with an apparent muscle injury and grasped his hamstring. As Hojlund staggered to the side of the field, it appeared problematic that the Dane was seated on the floor and signaling for him to come off.
Furthermore, as the forward walked directly down the tunnel, Hojlund provided an early indication that he was not merely experiencing leg cramps.
Anthony Martial is the only other recognized central striker for United in the squad led by Ten Hag. However, when called upon, the Frenchman has been ineffective this season, scoring only once in September’s Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace.
However, Hojlund will have several weeks to recuperate from the knock, as the following week is an international break. Ten Hag will undoubtedly be hopeful that Denmark rests the striker, despite the fact that the country still has work to do to qualify for the European Championships next year.
With seven goals tallied during qualifying, Hojlund has been instrumental in assisting Denmark in their qualifying efforts for the major tournament.
At present, they share an equal number of points with Slovenia, which places them atop the table. Kazakhstan is the only country capable of surpassing either of them. A prospective disadvantage for Denmark in their final group match against Northern Ireland could result from a loss to Slovenia.
Ten Hag will need Hojlund to be recovered in order for United to recommence the season later this month, beginning on November 26 away at Everton. An even more critical match, however, will take place a few days later, as United faces Galatasaray in a must-win effort to maintain their Champions League hopes.
