Auburn Tigers dragging their feet with Malcolm Simmons arrest and possible looming suspension as they ‘gather the facts

The Auburn Tigers seem to be dragging their feet on dealing with wide receiver Malcolm Simmons’ domestic‑violence arrest, opting instead to “gather the facts” before taking any action.

The arrest, which reportedly involved a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation, was a serious development—especially considering it came just weeks after another Tigers player was dismissed following a drug‑related arrest.

Despite the gravity of the situation, multiple sources indicate that Auburn’s athletic department and football program remain hesitant to act. Notably, Mike Gittens of The War Rapport shared that university officials told him: “Auburn is awaiting all the facts before making any determination on Malcolm Simmons’ status with the program.”

“They went on to say that they’re confident they do not yet have what they need to make a judgement, but once those facts are clear, decisions will be made swiftly.”

Currently, Simmons appears to be in limbo—he’s not involved in any program activities, but Auburn has yet to announce a suspension.

That delay has drawn criticism. Auburn University Journalism professor emeritus John Carvalho tweeted concerns over the optics:

> “For Auburn to not announce a decision on even suspending Malcolm Simmons, and leaving the alleged victim to increased pressure and the knowledge that her assailant faced no consequences from Auburn, could turn out to be a terrible, insensitive look.”

Ultimately, Simmons’ future remains uncertain. Until more facts are revealed, there’s no clear timeline for a decision. In the meantime, critics suggest Auburn’s indecision could become ammunition for SEC rivals and fans looking to stir controversy on social media.
