Do you recall the Brooklyn Nets’ championship-caliber squad? Indeed, the one that Sean Marks constructed centered on the ‘Big Three’—Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Kevin Durant.
The majority of individuals are perplexed as to where that core went incorrect.
Even though all three players have gone on to greater things, the subject was revived when new Rockets star Kevin Durant made an appearance on the podcast of Steve Nash and LeBron James, and the revelations made by Durant were shocking.
Durant, a member of that insanely stacked roster, provided a succinct assessment of the project.
The 15-time All-Star talked about how everything around the team wasn’t up to the mark. However, despite that, the veteran forward claimed that there was one reason due to which the team did not achieve the heights it was supposed to. “We just didn’t get on the court enough. I think when you see James, Kyrie and myself, it was amazing basketball for 17 games though,” Durant joked.
He then explained why he thought so: “In order for you to win a championship and be a great team, you just need more time on the floor.” There’s no doubt that the talent was in abundance in that Nets team; however, they were hard hit by injuries, according to Durant. He then proceeded to talk about how Steve Nash, who coached the Brooklyn team across three seasons, “didn’t get to coach as much as I wanted to.” KD and Nash’s insight on the matter was a huge revelation for the fans, who had been unaware of what was going on behind the scenes.
Although there are only a few, if any, super teams that imploded as badly as that Nets team, it seems like this was only KD’s side of what was going on behind the scenes at the time. That’s because his teammate and Mavericks star Kyrie Irving broke his silence on the matter. “lol I am gonna address this on my stream soon,” Irving tweeted. The veteran guard, who’s recovering from a terrible ACL injury, indicated that he’s going to present his side of the story. Whether it will be with what Durant spoke or against it, no one knows right now.
However, by the looks of it seems like Irving has his own perspective on why things didn’t work out for him or others at the Brooklyn Nets, which seems to be different from the Slim Reaper. More so, because Durant repeatedly spoke about the extra things going around him and Nash at the time. This could, of course, be linked with Irving’s refusal to get vaccinated, which led to his suspension. Nonetheless, whatever it may be that Kyrie Irving wants to address, it looks like KD’s too excited to hear.
