Bulls Make Big Splash: Sign Memphis Grizzlies fan Favorite For Summer League

The Grizzlies failed to extend a qualifying offer to Kawamura, thus he became an unrestricted free agency on Monday.

The Grizzlies signed the former Memphis guard to a two-year deal last year, and he made his NBA debut last season.

 

He was voted the Yokohama B-Corsairs’ Most Valuable Player in 2022–2023, his final season in the Japanese B. League before joining the Grizz.

He played there for five seasons. Even before the first game of last season, Kawamura left an impression on Memphis.

In October 2024, at an open practice at the FedExForum, fans yelled Kawamura’s name.

The Grizzlies’ shortest player then performed the griddy, inviting Ja Morant to join him on the floor.

When the season ended, he had the shortest stat line in the league.

Kawamura played in 24 games for the G League, averaging 2.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists with an average of 12.
