On the second day of the 2025 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets announced a trade.
As the Memphis Grizzlies completed two transactions on the second day of the 2025 NBA Draft, the front office was incredibly busy yesterday night.
The Grizzlies acquired the rights to Jahmai Mashack of Tennessee from the Rockets in the second transaction, which gave them the 59th and last draft pick.
Grizzlies officials made the announcement late Thursday night in a statement that revealed the team’s purchase of Mashack in an as-of-yet-unfinalized transaction.
During the draft, the 59th pick traveled through three different teams: the Grizzlies, Houston, and Golden State, in a trade for the 41st overall pick.

“The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team has agreed in principle to acquire the draft rights to Jahmai Mashack, the No. 59 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, from the Houston Rockets as part of a trade that is not yet final,” a release from the organization said.
“Mashack (6-3, 197) started all 38 appearances last season as a senior at Tennessee and averaged 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 steals in 28.2 minutes to help guide the Volunteers to the Elite 8 round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year,” Grizzlies PR added.
In addition to the usual college accolades, the press release included Mashack’s selection to the 2024–25 SEC All–Defensive team and his participation in Tennessee’s run to the 2025 NCAA Tournament’s Elite 8. In addition to being nominated for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award, Mashack was also chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year by the Field of 68.
