Former West Virginia point guard Miles “Deuce” McBride has been having a good time recently.
He celebrated the birth of his daughter Ace, helped the New York Knicks reach a historic season that culminated in the Eastern Conference Finals, and published his debut children’s book, “Deuce: A Champion of Friendship.”
During his time as a Wildcat, WVU fans recognised his potential; now, as a Knick, he is a fan favourite in New York. Javon Small, chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 48th overall pick, became the newest member of the Mountaineer family last night when he was introduced to the NBA.
Coming in at number 48 seems a little late for Small, but what really matters is your performance once you’re in the organisation. McBride is well-versed in this, having spent a considerable amount of time in the G League prior to making an impression with the major league club after being selected 36th overall in 2021.
Small is expected to follow a similar trajectory to McBride, although he may have his NBA debut earlier than the latter.
This is because he is joining the league with greater experience and plays for a team that has some doubts about their backcourt outside of Ja Morant.
