
Last year at this time, the Memphis Grizzlies shocked everyone by draughting Purdue centre Zach Edey with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Even though Memphis isn’t as high on the draft board as they were in previous years, anything may happen in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft (7 p.m. CT, ABC and ESPN).
The No. 16 overall selection is now held by the Grizzlies. Additionally, they will be represented in the second round with selections 48 and 56 on June 26 (7 p.m. CT, ESPN).
With the Desmond Bane transaction that took place on June 15, the Memphis Grizzlies were able to acquire the Orlando Magic’s No. 16 overall selection.
The Grizzlies had already dealt Marcus Smart’s contract and the No. 18 overall pick to the Washington Wizards, so they did not have a first-round selection to work with.
The Memphis Grizzlies will use their first-round pick to sign a wing player. With the roster as it is right now, that’s the best course of action.
Memphis still has its sights set on bolstering its core around Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr.; they selected Edey and Jaylen Wells, two starters, in the previous round.
