South Carolina’s QB Room, among Best players in the Country

Football redshirt sophomore LaNorris Sellers of South Carolina is among the nation’s top players. But he’s far from the only gifted quarterback in the lineup.

One of the most talented and deep quarterback rooms the Gamecocks have ever had is comprised of four-man scholarship group members: Cutter Woods, Luke Doty, Air Noland, and Sellers.

The role will be an asset this season, and it also has promising prospects for the future. Athlon Sports recognized the nation’s top ten quarterback groups in its 2025 college football preseason preview.

There was a cut in South Carolina. The Gamecocks were fourth in the rankings, behind only LSU Tigers, Clemson Tigers, and Texas Longhorns.

Let’s take a brief look at each of the young men in offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Shula’s unit

LaNorris Sellers: QB1 for the Gamecocks and potentially QB1 in the entire country, Sellers was a four-star, top-10 national quarterback prospect in the class of 2023. After sitting a year behind Spencer Rattler, Sellers took over. He took a few weeks to gain his footing, but by the end of the season, No. 16 had become one of the top players in the sport.

Luke Doty: A former four-star, top-100 national prospect, Doty has moved back and forth between the quarterback room and wide receiver group during his time in Columbia. He has started games under center, been the backup, been deep on the bench, and been a rotational receiver.

Heading into 2025, he is probably the No. 2 man on the depth chart.

Air Noland: Noland was a borderline five-star prospect in the 2024 class who redshirted last year at Ohio State. The transfer portal brought him to South Carolina, and he will compete for the backup job behind Sellers this season.

Meanwhile, the lefty will develop and battle for a starting job that could be open next season if Sellers makes his way to the NFL.

Cutter Wood: Early returns at USC have showcased Woods’s impressive skills as an underappreciated three-star player in the 2025 cycle. Gamecock supporters are optimistic about his future; he had strong winter workouts and showed excellent sparks in the Garnet and Black Spring Game.

Even though a redshirt might be better for Woods with Doty and Noland on the team, he is an exciting arm to keep an eye on.

The 2025 roster also includes Jimmy Francis, a redshirt freshman who played on a walk-on basis. Going ahead, the Gamecocks are in the process of recruiting two very good quarterbacks.

Landon Duckworth, a four-star quarterback prospect from the class of 2026, is South Carolina’s top quarterback target.

The native of Alabama has two schools to choose from: Auburn Tigers and USC.

After competing in this week’s Elite 11 Finals in California, he’ll make one more unofficial stop in Columbia before making a definitive decision in July.

South Carolina has extended seven quarterback recruiting offers to members of the 2027 class.

The player most likely to be targeted at this point in time is four-star Trent Seaborn.

Early scholarship offers were extended to three quarterbacks in the ’28 cycle by the Gamecocks.
