Chelsea is “complicating matters” by pursuing the first Real Madrid acquisition of Xabi Alonso’s dreams.

Amid rumors of the transfer, Xabi Alonso is said to have already decided on one of his Real Madrid signings.

Xabi Alonso’s situation is reportedly complicated by Chelsea’s participation in the transfer competition for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong. Alonso is rumored to be interested in signing Frimpong to Real Madrid should he be appointed manager of the Santiago Bernabeu after Carlo Ancelotti.

According to the Spanish publication Depor, one of the “requirements” for the Spaniard to remain in the Real Madrid dugout next season is Frimpong’s arrival. As they seek a replacement for right-back Dani Carvajal, Los Blancos have identified Frimpong as the optimal candidate.

However, they will reportedly face stiff competition from Chelsea and Liverpool for his signature. The Blues’ interest is unexpected in light of the fact that Reece James has returned to full health and they only recently paid £30.7 million for 20-year-old French fullback Malo Gusto from Lyon.

With Liverpool, however, the situation is wholly different. Trent Alexander-Arnold would benefit from the Reds acquiring a new right-back in order to enable him to advance further up the field.

Alexander-Arnold has demonstrated remarkable promise as a central midfielder for England; Liverpool will be hopeful he can produce similar results for the club. In addition to Alexander-Arnold’s transition in position, the club is severely lacking in natural right-backs.

In the absence of Alexander-Arnold, center-back Joe Gomez steps in; Calvin Ramsay, who is on loan at Preston North End until the end of the season, is the next best option. Consequently, the acquisition of Frimpong would represent a significant commercial transaction for the Merseyside club.

Frimpong, who was previously under contract with Manchester City and Celtic during his adolescence, has been dominating since his January 2021 transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old was awarded his first uniform for the Dutch national team last month in recognition of his outstanding performance after being named to the Team of the Season for the 2022/2023 campaign in the German top division.

The 41-year-old has flourished under Alonso’s tutelage since his arrival at the BayArena in October of last year, and it would appear that his manager is not yet prepared to terminate their collaboration.
