Chris Sutton said that the Premier League “would never recover” after Everton and Manchester City surprised him.

According to Chris Sutton, the Premier League “would never recover” if it treated Manchester City any differently than Everton following the club’s 10-point penalty.

On November 20, the BBC Sport analyst stated on It’s All Kicking Off that “that cannot happen” in reference to the league’s possible desire to avoid playing the all-conquering Etihad titans because of the 115 unanswered charges, which they refute.

Sutton stated that he thought there would be “a lot of sympathy” for the club’s supporters in particular, but he doesn’t think the Toffees have been “singled out” just yet because there are still cases pending. Instead, he anticipates that a “close eye” will be kept on the resolution of the City situation to determine whether the punishment is appropriate.

“City are going to defend those charges so it is a ‘wait and see’ on the face of things,” Sutton stated (7 minutes and 45 seconds). That’s what Everton supporters have, I believe, looked at. “After this charge, Manchester City has 115, so they really ought to be in serious trouble.” By all reports, Chelsea is the same.

“I understand that this is the source of the wrath and anger among Everton fans, but let’s wait and see what happens to Manchester City.”

Sutton retorted, “But they can’t think like that,” to Ian Ladyman’s suggestion that the Premier League wouldn’t want to demote their own champion team. That is not possible. It’s unbelievable that you would say that.

Are you suggesting that Everton will receive a different treatment than Manchester City? Here, Everton and Everton supporters will be watching these 115 charges against Manchester City to see how things work out.

However, I don’t think what you’re stating is feasible. You cannot treat Everton any differently. What kind of future precedent would that create? The Premier League was never going to bounce back from that.

“That isn’t going to happen if they treat somebody differently than somebody else, as you’re suggesting is a possibility.”

Inconceivable

The worry among Toffees supporters and probably many neutrals will persist until the Manchester City issue has a resolution: the team has been singled out as an easy target, and the triple champions won’t experience the same treatment.

However, Pep Guardiola’s team won’t be punished until and until they are determined to have committed the alleged offenses, which puts many in a difficult situation.

If the Premier League were to treat Everton any differently than City, they would lose all credibility. However, there is already a strong perception that they got away with a combined £22 million fine for the failed European Super League plot, which included Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that a hearing on Manchester City’s complaint would take some time, thus it is unlikely that any adequate answers will be provided for some time.

Everton is unable to ignore the serious issues that have arisen at Goodison Park, and the club’s management are subject to harsh criticism.

However, the severity of the sentence has sparked many doubts about its appropriateness, and the fact that the City situation’s and maybe others’ timelines are unknown means that the matter will remain unresolved for some time to come.

In other Everton news, BBC Sport reports that there is a “very real danger” that things could get worse for the Toffees very soon.
