Every day in cycling, a lot of things happen, and news keeps coming in through a lot of different sources. But besides the big and well-known news, there are also little things, stories, and facts going around. In order to make sure you don’t miss anything, IDLProCycling.com made “Meanwhile in the peloton.” On top of that, we add fun social media posts that you don’t always have to take seriously.

Pogacar cheers on Evenepoel, who is hurt.

December 7: Remco Evenepoel’s hard crash during a training session shocked the racing world. The Belgian player broke several bones and will need a long time to heal. Tadej Pogacar feels sorry for his rival. “have sent him a message wishing him a speedy recovery,” he said when he was given the Vélo d’Or, which he had won. “He doesn’t need to worry, even though everyone knows that winter is the time to lay the groundwork.” I hope Remco doesn’t bring that bike crash with him.

Former junior queen Stigger is signed by SD Worx-Protime

December 6: SD Worx-Laura Stigger is a very skilled rider that Protime has hired for the new season. The Austrian, who is 24 years old, did especially well with juniors and U23s. In 2018, she won the world title in both road and mountain biking for the younger riders. She will keep working with this group on the Dutch team. Her main job on the road will be spring work, but she will also be useful when the hills get longer.

The year 2025, Toneatti rides for Astana.

December 6: Astana said a few days ago that Santiago Umba and Daniil Marukhin will be adding back to the development team. It was an interesting move because Umba, who was 22 years old, and Marukhin, who was 25 years old, were still in the World Formation in 2024. In fact, the Colombian raced in the Vuelta a España for Alexander Vinokourov’s team. Why did you decide this? Both riders just needed more time; they were not ready for the step up to the WorldTour yet.

Or did it really have something to do with Maxim van Gils? Also, did the two riders have to leave to make room for someone else? Before 2024, a spot was also made available at the last minute so that Mark Cavendish could come. It’s no longer a secret that Astana is interested in Van Gils.

Two spots are open, but one is already taken by Davide Toneatti, who is being moved to the main team. The 23-year-old Italian signed a two-year deal after three years on the youth team. “I’m excited to sign my first professional deal and move up to the WorldTour with Astana Qazaqstan Team.” Over the past three years, they’ve been very important to me because I trust and depend on them. It was a good experience for me, and this new task makes me want to work harder and reach my full potential, the Italian said in a press release.

Vinokurov also makes a contribution. “We’ve seen Davide steadily improve as a rider over the past three years. He works hard in training and races.” This season, he raced in several races with our WorldTeam and never dropped out. He helped the Development team win and get on the podium several times. The general manager of Astana Qazaqstan Team said, “I’m thrilled that he’s joining our main team. This move couldn’t have come at a better time for his development.”

The question is who will fill the last spot and whether it will be filled. A name change is still possible, though, since Xds is going to be a sponsor soon. So, the name of the team in 2025 will be XdS Carbon Tech Astana Qazakhstan.

Forty years old Arashiro keeps going for another year, this time in Italian service

December 6: He can’t stop. Yukiya Arashiro, who is forty years old, has no plans to stop riding his bike sixteen years after his first Tour de France race in 2009. There is a new beginning for the Toscana Factory Team – Vini Fantini (Team Corratec – Vini Fantini last year), which is proud to say that Yukiya Arashiro has joined the team for the next season.

“The Japanese rider, who was born in 1984, has an impressive record. He has won eight times in his career, including three national road racing titles, a stage win in the Tour of Japan, and many impressive finishes in some of the most prestigious international races.” In his more than ten-year career, Arashiro has participated in 16 grand tours and 14 Monuments. His athleticism and tactical skill make him one of the most experienced and well-respected riders in the world. It will be very important for him to be there, both to help the team reach its athletic goals and to help coach and guide the young players on the team.

Now that Arashiro is here, the Italian team has nine confirmed riders. This means that either a lot more riders need to be confirmed or the team has a busy few weeks ahead of them. The team also has to deal with the fact that they won’t be able to get an invite into next year’s Giro d’Italia. They were not ranked in the top 40 by the UCI.

In 2025, the Dutch National Time Trial Championships will be held in Laren.

December 4: In Laren, the people who will take over for Daan Hoole and Riejanne Markus will be chosen. On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Dutch National Time Trial Championships will be held in a village in the Gemeinde Lochum. The group works with the KNWU, the Wielergroep Laren, and the LWC de Paaschberg. The press statement says that the race route will be twenty kilometers long. Along with the National Time Trial Championship, there will be a number of other events, such as a race for kids on big tires.

The head of Wielergroep Laren, Henk Oudenampsen, says, “We are very proud to bring this national event to Laren.” We will all work together to make it a party that everyone will remember for a long time. Another person excited about it is Pascal Kamperman of Achterhoek in Beweging: “It’s Great to See How Two Clubs and a Very Enthusiastic Group of Volunteers Accept This and Have the Courage to Organize It.”

The group is an honor for Alderman Lex de Goede of the Lochem town. “It’s an event that brings our community together, gets people moving, and puts our town on the map.” We are happy to support this as a municipality, and we have full faith in the group that made it happen.

Two Vollerings will be in the race next year: “She has always continued”

On December 2, the next Vollering shows up. Soon, Bodine Vollering will start working as a professional. She is 21 years old and signed with VolkerWessels Women’s Pro Cycling Team for two years. Her sister is Demi Vollering. Her new team says Bodine does great, especially when the going gets steep.

Being on the VolkerWessels Cycling Team next year makes me happy. There are a lot of changes going on in women’s racing right now. The VolkerWessels Cycling Team is the best move I could have made. The group wants to grow at the same time as women’s cycling, and they have already proven they can make great winners. The youngest Vollering says, “I’m looking forward to working hard toward my dreams and goals and riding with the girls. I will learn a lot from the whole team.”

Her bigger sister is also speaking up. The rider, who is 28 years old, says under the Instagram picture, “Proud of you Dylan.” She talks about it more on her Instagram story. “Be happy for Bodine! She worked so hard on this step, and even when it seemed easy to give up, she always kept going. Now begins your journey!!!”

Israel’s Premier Tech adds more staff, and Bauer is named new sports head.

The job of sports director at Israel-Premier Tech will go to Steve Bauer on December 2. The Canadian will take over for Rik Verbrugghe, who joined the new Ridley Racing Team at the beginning of the month. It’s not just Bauer’s name that has been released; Alexander Cataford and Francesco Frassi will also be joining as team managers. Cataford, a Canadian, used to ride for the Israeli team.

Manager Kjell Carlström said, “We are excited to announce our new players for the 2025 season.” “Steve Bauer was a natural choice to become Sporting Manager after three years at IPT. He had already been in this role at CCC Team.” Because we are working to get back to the WorldTour, Steve’s knowledge and experience will help shape our Sporting and Performance sections.

Froome and Cavendish are still in Thailand on their “honeymoon.”

December 1: Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome are still very close. The two famous British cyclists are riding criteriums around the world to raise money with their trip. Their last trip was on a romantic ship in Miami. Now they are in Thailand, where they are soaking up the culture. Who do you think looks best in the traditional clothes?

Evenepoel goes to Qatar to see the Formula 1 team.

December 1 – Remco Evenepoel is known to love fast cars. In fact, the two-time Olympic winner was seen this week driving a brand-new BMW. He was seen in the pits on Sunday during the Formula 1 race in Qatar. Alpine had him as a guest on their race team, where he talked with Jack Doohan, an Australian reserve driver. Soon after, he met Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, the lead drivers for the French team.

Once more, Wout van Aert shows off his singing skills.

Wout van Aert was “The Unicorn” on The Masked Singer in Belgium on November 30. This was fun for him, as shown on the second slide of an Instagram post by rider Riejanne Markus. Van Aert did the same show at a Visma | Lease a Bike party.

Also, Kuss and Jorgenson were in the stands at AZ with Evenepoel and Jan Vertonghen.

November 30: Most riders are on vacation, but they are still sports fans. As an example, we saw Mathieu van der Poel play golf earlier. Remco Evenepoel went to an Anderlecht game. When he was younger, he was a great soccer player for that team. After that, he went to see Jan Vertonghen, who is the manager of the Belgian team. Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss, two Americans, were in Alkmaar at the same time to watch AZ play Galatasaray. In the stands, they looked like they were having a great time!

Evenepoel drives off in a brand-new BMW, full of pride.

November 29: Remco Evenepoel got a new toy! The Belgian from Soudal-Quick Step picked up his new BMW M5 from the store on Thursday. It is the car that will replace his X5. For the evening game between “his” soccer team, Anderlecht, and FC Porto, he drove it right away. He talked about his new car during halftime to Play6. “Getting a car like that is always a lot of fun.”

HLN says that Evenepoel’s new toy will cost “at least 144,000 euros.” Because of the deal between Soudal-Quick Step and Le Couter & Lemmens in Desselgem, he gets to ride in a BMW every year.

“Taco van der Hoorn extends contract at Intermarché-Wanty”

On November 28, there was still some doubt, and we haven’t heard back from the team yet, but it looks like Taco van der Hoorn can stay with Intermarché-Wanty. Daniel Benson, a cycling journalist who is generally very knowledgeable, told us about that through his X-account. It would be good for Van der Hoorn, who came back in the second half of the season and won the Elfstedenrace right away. Based on his success, the team doesn’t want to take away his chance to stay. Good news!

Burke “beats” the world’s best GC riders once more.

November 27: It happened again! We told you last week about Jack Burke, a Canadian amateur cyclist who was breaking Strava KOMs on famous Italian hills. He first beat Vincenzo Nibali on the famous Mortirolo, then he beat Nibali on the Stelvio. No, Burke isn’t just doing these crazy things for fun. He’s trying to reach his goal of getting a pro deal. “Let’s hope this opens up some kind of chance,” he wrote in his post.

Burke has now won the KOM on Alpe d’Huez, which is another accomplishment in his long list. “16 years, blood, and sweat. He wrote on Instagram, “I’m still trying to chase my dream,” and he posted a beautiful video of his attempt. “I lost my job because I was hit by a car two years ago.” It broke my heart to think that I never reached my full athletic ability. Really, it’s great to feel like old Jack again and like I might still be able to do this. I’m not sure why I’m training, but I’ll be ready when the time comes.

Burke had respect for the GC riders whose times he beat as well. “It hurt the most that Sepp Kuss, Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar, and Geraint Thomas did this climb at the end of a stage.” Crazy. Now I’m an even bigger fan.”
