Manchester United
Following the 4-0 win over Everton, here are five things we learnt.
After taking over as manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim got his first win in the Premier League.
With an easy 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have now won their last two games in all categories.
Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice as Manchester United won a crucial three points in the Premier League on Sunday.
Here are five things we learnt from Everton’s loss to United.
Joshua Zirkzee will stay at Man United.
It seemed like Zirkzee was cursed after scoring on his first game for Manchester United back in August.
Since then, he hadn’t scored in 17 games, but with two goals at Old Trafford, United’s £36 million summer signing broke his goal slump.
People looked at Ruben Amorim funny when he dropped Rasmus Hojlund after his midweek brace, but it shows that he trusts Zirkzee, and that trust was paid off.
It is said that Zirkzee will leave United in January, but he wants to stay and fight for the team. The good game he had against Everton was a step in the right way.
Jarrad Branthwaite hurts chances of moving.
It was said that United had talks about Jarrad Branthwaite as recently as last month. The Everton back had become one of Ineos’ top targets.
The 22-year-old’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is said to be a big fan, but what he saw on Sunday afternoon will not have thrilled him.
The first goal was scored when Rashford’s shot bounced off of Branthwaite, and the second goal was scored when he lost the ball carelessly.
Branthwaite had a bad afternoon…
Carrying out Ruben Amorim’s main request
Amorim is set on United controlling games; it can’t be anything else.
That didn’t happen against Ipswich, where United threw away a lead, and the Bodo/Glimt game wasn’t quite as organised as he had wanted.
As far as I can tell, this was United’s best game under Amorim, and the Portuguese coach will be glad to see players following his lead.
He will be happy that United had 59% of the ball at the end.
Kobbie Mainoo works well with the new method.
There is a view that Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo will become Amorim’s long-term midfield pair. On Sunday, Mainoo made his debut.
When Mainoo came back from being hurt, he quickly got back into the swing of things.
He played with the ball a lot and often set the pace for United by getting the ball from defence and moving it up the pitch. Mainoo is very important to Amorim.
Bruno Fernandes at his best again
For some reason, Bruno Fernandes had a rough start to the season. But since Erik ten Hag was fired, he has really come on strong.
Under Ruud van Nistelrooy, United’s captain was in great shape, and that hasn’t changed under Amorim.
With his two assists at Old Trafford, Fernandes has now helped set up nine goals in his last ten games.
Fernandes was moved back to No. 10 by Amorim because that’s where he seems to fit best in the new 3-4-3 setup.
