Why Taurean York from Texas A&M has a grudge against the Texas Longhorns

The teams that play for the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies may know each other better than any other two in America.

There are 161 players from Texas between the two teams, and most of them played against at least one or more players from the other team in high school.

Plus, the Longhorns and Aggies will be playing each other for the first time in 13 years this Saturday, making the rivalry even more fierce. Each player hopes to leave their mark on the rivalry.

Of course, that includes Taurean York, the star defender for the Aggies, who hates the Longhorns and can’t wait to play them.

The offer from A&M was what York said on Monday. The state of Texas stayed 50 minutes away from me. They flew in a helicopter to see my best friend. They weren’t really interested in me. I didn’t put much money into those guys anyway.

York signed with Texas A&M as a three-star talent from Temple, Texas. He had already committed to Baylor, but the Aggies made an offer late in the process, and York accepted it.

The Longhorns didn’t even make an offer to the now-Aggie leader. Instead, they signed five other linebackers: Anthony Hill, a five-star prospect; Derion Gullette, Leona Leafua, Tasuli Akana, a four-star prospect; and S’Maje Burrell, a three-star prospect.

For what York said over the summer, that hurt him.

At SEC Media Days, York said, “It’s personal, that’s all I have to say. It’s personal.” If it’s that important to me, I don’t talk to anyone from Texas. They didn’t try to recruit me, and a lot of people are saying great things about me and Texas players. “So I kind of put those to rest.”

To be fair, the Longhorns didn’t really make a mistake when they signed those guys. Hill might be the best defender in the SEC, and Lefau is a rising star on defence who makes a big difference. One more thing: the Longhorns have big plans for Akana and Gullette in the future.

Only Burrell turned out to be a bad purchase for the Horns because he was caught drunk driving with former Longhorn T’Vondre Sweat during the off-season and was kicked off the team.

With or without this win, York will finally get to play Texas on the pitch and show them why he thinks they were wrong not to sign him in 2023.

The game will start at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC, and York hopes that the Longhorns will continue to get the first kick.
