Leading the country in block parties, Kentucky women’s basketball always has a great time.
The Kentucky women’s basketball team has become one of the most intimidating in the country thanks to their new head coach, Kenny Brooks. They have come up with a fierce defence identity. The Wildcats are breaking records and moving up in the national rankings thanks to a strong shot-blocking defence that no other team has been able to handle.
Taking over the block party
Kentucky has blocked an amazing 68 shots in just six games, which is the most in the country.
In five games, they’ve blocked more than 11 shots, which is 23 more than second-place Notre Dame, which has blocked 45 shots.
Other teams have had to change how they play in the paint because of Kentucky’s dominance. The Wildcats make easy goals look like defensive highlights.
One of the best defences for field goals
The Wildcats’ field goal percentage defence is the third best in the country; they only let opponents shoot 30.1% of the time.
Shot blocking and suffocating defence on the edges have made it very hard for Kentucky to score in the paint and on the wings.
The rim is protected by stars
Both Teonni Key and Clara Strack have been amazing. They are both in the top 10 in the country in blocks per game.
Together, Key’s length and timing and Strack’s positioning and skills have made them a very dangerous pair in the paint. Young Clara Silva has also had a six-block game.
The Wildcats are doing great thanks to Coach Kenny Brooks’ quick shift to a defensive attitude. The Lady Cats’ defence is strong even when shots aren’t going, which has happened a few times this year.
The Kentucky defence has had a great start to the season, with big wins over top teams. This sets the tone for what could be a great year. The SEC and the whole country should pay attention if the Wildcats keep up this level of energy.
