According to reports, Manchester United and Manchester City will compete to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

Since it was announced that Ruben Amorim would be United’s new head coach, there have been a lot of rumors that the club wants to sign Gyokeres. Amorim, who is 39 years old, was hired by the Reds to replace Erik ten Hag as manager at Old Trafford. He had previously spent four seasons at Sporting.

This season, Gyokeres has been in great shape for Sporting, scoring 24 goals in 19 games across all categories. The Swedish player got a hat trick earlier this month in the Champions League against City.

The Sunday Mirror says that United and City both want to sign Gyokeres in 2025. A report says that both teams want to sign the 26-year-old, and deals are set to happen during the summer transfer window at the end of the season.

It has been said that Amorim wants to work with Gyokeres again at United and has set his sights on the striker as the player he wants to bring in to improve the team at the end of the season. There have been rumors that Sporting might let Gyokeres leave the club next summer for a fee of around £65 million.

According to the story, City is also interested, even though Erling Haaland is already their first-choice striker. Hugo Viana is leaving Sporting to become City’s new sporting director next summer. City will hope this gives them an edge in the race to sign him, and the Portuguese striker is said to be keen to bring Gyokeres to the Etihad Stadium with him.

Reports say that Gyokeres isn’t sure if he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s team, even though City certainly seems interested. the striker will only join City if he doesn’t have to sit on the bench behind Haaland, according to the story. It could give United a big edge in what will likely be one of the most-wanted moves of next summer.
