“Without fear,” Ruben Amorim says in an exciting answer about how he plays for Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim is the new head coach of Manchester United. He wants his teams to “control the ball without fear.”
Erik ten Hag was fired early last week after United had the worst start to a Premier League season in history, and the club quickly hired someone to take his place.
United thinks Amorim is one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe now that he has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal that ends in the summer of 2027.
Athletic’s 39-year-old manager won the team’s first league title in 19 years in his first full season in charge. He has been praised for being a smart manager. Amorim likes to use a 3-4-3 shape, and his Sporting Lisbon team usually has the ball for longer but makes good use of it.
On November 11, Amorim will start working for United. He will start during the international break, and his first game as a manager will be against Ipswich Town.
He is, however, giving his leave at Sporting right now, and on Tuesday night, he will be in charge of the Portuguese team as they play Manchester City at home in the Champions League.
According to Amorim, it has been the hardest and best week of his life in an interview with TNT Sports before that game. I simply have no other choice but to explain it. It’s been very hard because I’m leaving a great place to go to one of the best clubs in the world. But it is what it is.
“As a sports coach, it’s just another game, and I’ll be judged as a sports coach.” This game against the world’s best boss is very important to me. That must be hard for Manchester United fans.
And I believe they are the best team in the world, so the game will be tough. Because we’re almost in the play-offs, this game is very important. My last game in Alvalade.
“I know everyone in England is researching and planning for this game, but for me, it’s just my last game as coach of Sporting, and I will concentrate on that.”
“It’s hard to say that [looking forward to playing Guardiola more]. I think it will be very hard, but not just Pep. All the best coaches are in England, so it’s a different world.”
You have the top three teams in Portugal and most of the games there. But that’s not how things are there, and I need that as a coach now. To say I’m excited about that kind of task, well, no [laughs].”
Someone asked Amorim about the way his team plays at Sporting. He replied, “Like I said, I’m more worried about making sure my players feel comfortable playing football to win the game than showing something to the English fans and the English media.” My attention is on my Sporting guys right now.
“We have the skills to play well, but they need to feel at ease, that’s my main goal.” I know that a lot of people will be reviewing my team and my work for just one game.
“I know that, but I’m not thinking about it.” I’m only thinking about my guys and how good the team is. Yes, I want a team that doesn’t have to worry about losing control of the ball, but we’ll see what happens tomorrow.
A lot of people thought Amorim should take over for Pep Guardiola at City, and his close friend Hugo Viana, who used to work as Sporting’s director of football, is going to move to the Etihad.
“We will be friends until the end, but I have my way and I choose Manchester United,” Amorim said. It will be fun because Manchester United is my team and Manchester City is his.
“I want to help Manchester United get better, and he will do the same for him. But right now it’s hard to get better in Manchester City.” “United is the path I choose.”
