Man City is now on my list of teams I want to play for after I scored more goals than Erling Haaland.

Viktor Gyokeres is a dangerous striker who can help Man City win their Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon.

Given his ridiculous goal-scoring record for the Portuguese champs, the Swedish international forward is one of the hottest properties in world football.

Including playoffs, the 26-year-old scored 43 goals, five more than City’s own Erling Haaland. He has also gotten off to a great start this season.

Because of how well he’s been playing this season, Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Manchester United by Sporting manager Ruben Amorim. He has scored 20 goals in 16 games across all categories.

He’s also been mentioned with Arsenal. When the two teams play at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, he will be a huge problem for City’s defence.

He became famous in an unusual way. He had a hard time breaking through at Brighton and Hove Albion, but it was at Coventry City, under boss Mark Robins, that he really made his mark.

The Sky Blues were only one penalty shootout away from winning the Championship play-offs and moving up to the Premier League thanks to his 22 goals in the 2022–23 season.

His play in the Championship caught the attention of Sporting, and as they say, the rest is history. Since then, many people think he will join United under Amorim.

And Robins is not shocked by his rise in Portugal.

Robins told Coventry Live, “Listen, it’s all Vik’s fault.” “Some people help you along the way in your career, but the way he is, the person he is, and the drive he has are all built into him; it’s in his DNA.”

“I remember telling you when we signed him that he seems to be in a hurry, and that’s how it looked.” He wanted to get as high as he could as fast as he could. And in the play-off final, we were one penalty kick away from seeing what he could be like with us in the Premier League.

“Since he moved to Sporting, the league is different, the players are different, and the quality is different. He went out and shot the lights out there.”

So it goes, a lot of teams are interested in signing him, and I’m sure Sporting will want to keep him too. That’s still to be seen, but I believe he is now one of the best forwards in Europe and one of the best players overall.

Now Gyokeres will try to show what he can do against a City team that has a lot of injuries. For Amorim, this will be his last winners League game as manager of Sporting before he starts working for United on November 11. He won’t be the only one who wants to make a point against the Premier League winners.
