What Cooper Kupp Says About Why He Doesn’t Want to Trade With The Steelers

There are still a few playoff teams that haven’t traded for a wide receiver. The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly interested in Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams, but Ben Roethlisberger has said that he doesn’t think it would be a good idea for either team.

Later that week, after Pittsburgh’s win over the New York Giants in Week 8, Roethlisberger said on the latest episode of his Footbahlin podcast that Kupp probably wouldn’t want to join the Steelers because his part would be smaller.

Roethlisberger said, “It would be unbelievable if it happened.” “You’re not going to bring a No. 1 onto the scene. The idea of Cooper Kupp coming here makes me uneasy. Although he has only played three games, he has already caught 23 passes for almost 200 yards and scored two scores.

Furthermore, Roethlisberger said that Kupp’s place as a top passing option might suffer if he joins the Steelers, which might make him not want to join the team.

“Right now, we’ve played eight, and he’d be No. 4 on our team in receiving in less than half the games,” the quarterback said. “George Pickens has got 35 catches, he’s only 12 behind, he doesn’t want to come here and catch the ball three or four times a game.”

Since his first season in 2017, Kupp has been one of the best receivers in the league. Over the course of his career, he has caught 590 passes for 7,264 yards and 53 touchdowns. In 2021, he led the NFL in all three of those stats (145 catches, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns), which helped the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

In recent years, though, the 31-year-old has had trouble getting on the pitch. In 2022 and 2023, he played in a total of 21 games, but he has only played three times so far this season.

At the trade deadline, Kupp might be the last star receiver who could be moved. However, with the Rams currently 3-4 and in the running for the NFC West title, they might not want to let him go.

Pittsburgh will be on the lookout for any kind of move that might happen in the next few days, but it’s not likely that they’ll get Kupp.
