Erik ten Hag was in a bad mood after Man United fired him because of what Liverpool said.
As Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has been left red-faced after failing to keep his promise to end the seasons of dominance for Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Dutchman was fired from his job at Old Trafford after a terrible start to the season. Without any wins in their first nine games, the Red Devils are currently 14th in the Premier League.
United has only won one of its last five Premier League games and eight games overall. In the Europa League, the club has drawn its first three games against Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahce.
It’s also worth noting that the Red Devils have scored just eight goals so far this season, which is the third fewest in the Premier League. But there is one number that stands out from the rest.
Man City and Liverpool were the best teams in the Premier League when Ten Hag took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022. But the former Ajax player promised to stop them from being so good after he got there.
At the time, the 54-year-old said, “I admire both Manchester City and Liverpool.” “Both of them are great at sports. But you will see the end of an age.”
After less than two and a half years, Ten Hag is fired because he led United to its worst start to a Premier League season ever. In the meantime, Man City and Liverpool are in first and second place, with more than twice as many wins, points, and goals scored.
Ten Hag never really wanted to win the Premier League in his first two seasons, but he would have liked to be in the running in his third full season. He has actually gone backwards a huge amount, even though he spent more than $260 million (£200 million or €240 million) over the summer.
Pep Guardiola continues to shine with Man City as they try to win their fifth straight Premier League title, which would be a record. Liverpool, which is just down the M62 and is led by new manager Arne Slot, is right behind it.
Also, Ten Hag’s Red Devils had already been beaten 3-0 by the Reds in their own home in the third game of the season. The manager who had been in charge for two months looked much better than the manager who had been in charge for 26 months.
Liverpool and Manchester City are still on top of the Premier League. However, Manchester United needs to start over and find a new boss who can make them a title-challenging team. After Sir Alex Ferguson retired, five others had tried and failed.
