Everton
The Everton prize at the end of a long, rough trip is almost in reach, and it’s beautiful.
This week, one of the most famous waterfronts in the world had a beautiful scene. As the lights were being tried, Everton’s new stadium shone across the Mersey in royal blue. It added to the beauty of the night skyline.
The truth is that Everton Stadium is not just a sports stadium. It is an icon that gives the northern docklands new ideas. It is also bringing new life to the north west of England and helping it recover.
For the move from Goodison Park, 500 new stewarding jobs opened up this week. These may only be temporary jobs, but they open up new chances for hundreds of people. As the days go by until next summer, hundreds more jobs will open up. Thousands of jobs have already been created since the landmark rose from the water.
The venue is more than just a place for Everton to play. It’s a light of hope. After years of trouble on and off the field, there is hope that things will get better in the future. This hope has been strengthened by the news that The Friedkin Group is planning to take over the club.
Things aren’t quite right yet with the club, though. And even though there is hope that this is the start of a new era, there is still work to be done, and that duty is heavy at Finch Farm and all over the club.
At every opportunity, Sean Dyche keeps saying that the most important thing is to stay in the top flight while moving to the new stadium. This has been a theme of his time as manager. People should hope that this year’s games are more than just survival games, but this is still something to keep in mind as the season goes on.
The mood at Finch Farm right now is good. Four games without a loss, the return of many key players from injury, and the rise of unlikely heroes as important parts of that run are all great news for a club that has been badly lacking it for a long time.
Now more than ever, people need to keep things in perspective. This will stay true even if things go badly or a small team gets hurt during a tough winter run of games.
It’s not just about surviving this season, and no one should get off easy if things get really bad.
But Everton has a bright new future ahead of them. On Thursday night, when the brand-new stadium was lit up for the first time, it was a spectacular reminder of the prize that is waiting in the summer for everyone connected with the club.
