Begovic disagrees with what Souness said about Pickford, another Everton player who is called “world-class.”
Graham Souness called Asmir Begovic’s Everton teammate Jordan Pickford a “bomb scare.” Begovic replied.
In January, Souness attacked Pickford directly on talkSPORT, calling him “an accident waiting to happen.”
When asked if the Liverpool great had a point this week on the same radio station, Begovic said, “Oh no.” Graeme [Souness] should be blessed. I really find it hard to understand what he’s saying there.
“Pickford is truly world-class. I have seen him for three years and work with him every day.”
We’ve pushed each other, earned respect, and become friends because of it. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
In that way, I believe he has grown over the years.
“After all he’s done, he’s now at an age where he’s entering the best part of his career.”
It’s impossible to overstate how important Jordan Pickford is to Everton.
Pickford has been at Everton for eight years and played 70 times for England, but fans and experts still have different opinions about him.
Many of the negative comments about the 30-year-old player are very harsh, as shown by what Souness and John Aldridge said.
He does make that one odd mistake, but there’s no denying that he has become a key player and star for both his club and his country.
Players at Everton don’t just win Player of the Season awards three years in a row; they have to be good at what they do.
In the same way, he should be praised for his work with England at the UEFA European Championships in 2020 and 2024.
In the end, it looks like Pickford will be getting tough criticism until the day he retires.
The goalie will definitely block out the noise and keep working hard, just like he always does.
