Manchester United
Manchester United is sorry they spent £50 million on a player who looks a lot like Arjen Robben.
Since they didn’t sign Michael Olise, Manchester United is left to wonder what might have happened.
During his time at Crystal Palace, United was heavily linked with a move to sign the France international. Olise finally moved to Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window. The deal was said to be worth €60 million (£50 million).
When Bayern’s new boss, Vincent Kompany, took over, Olise quickly became one of the first players on the team sheet. Through all tournaments, the 22-year-old has scored five goals and set up three others. Two of those goals came in the 9-2 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb last month.
It’s possible that Erik ten Hag and the rest of the United team would have had a better season if they had been able to sign Olise. Olise has gotten a lot of praise for his work since he moved to Germany.
Lotshar Matthaus, a legendary Bayern player, recently said that Olise is like Arjen Robben, another legendary Bayern player. Mattaaus listed the reasons he thinks Olise might be even more talented than the former Real Madrid and Chelsea star.
Mats Hummels recently told Sky Germany that Olise sees his teammates better than Arjen Robben. “He has speed, wit, he recognises the situation; yes, a bit like Arjen Robben.”
In line with Matthaus, Max Eberl, the sports director of Bayern, said that Olise is similar to Robben and also to Franck Ribery, a famous French football player.
“Michael [Olise] is a player who, like a young [Franck] Ribery or a young [Arjen] Robben, can achieve extraordinary things,” said the coach.
