Manchester United sent a new red card decision for Marcus Rashford because the Premier League said they made a mistake.

Mark Halsey, a former Premier League referee, says that Marcus Rashford of Manchester United should have been given a second yellow card against Aston Villa over the weekend. If he had been sent off, there would have been doubts about his first booking.

Rashford got his first yellow card for a hit on Villa fullback Matty Cash just before the hour mark. After just two minutes, he got a yellow card for tripping Leon Bailey close to the United penalty area.

According to the home fans, referee Rob Jones didn’t give Rashford a second yellow card after making the foul. Later, Erik ten Hag took off the United forward and Antony came on to play his place.

Over the last few days, people have talked about the choice not to give Rashford a second yellow and, by extension, a red. For many experts and neutral fans, he was lucky not to be sent off. But Halsey thinks he should have been given a second yellow card, and he’s questioned the United player’s first caution.

He told The Whistle Blower in the Sun, “I thought Rob Jones was having a great season. I thought he got the two cautions mixed up.” “I didn’t see the first one as a warning; I saw it as a careless challenge.”

“The second one was a clear warning.” Rashford, has he already been warned? He should have gone for a second yellow card. Without a doubt.

What Halsey says is different from what Dermot Gallagher, another former judge, says. He supported the referee’s choice not to send Rashford off in an interview with Sky Sports’ ref watch.

His point was that if he wasn’t going to send him off, it wasn’t breaking up a good attack, so he did the right thing. “He set him up and told him, ‘Next one, he goes.’ I believe that is a good rule of thumb.”

Rashford was not picked for the England team, so he will spend the break working at Carrington with Ten Hag and the United coaching staff. The next time United plays is on October 19, when they host Brentford at Old Trafford.
