Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Watford of the Championship on Tuesday evening.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has acknowledged that he is apprehensive about “spending energy” in the Carabao Cup.

City defeated Watford 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, securing their spot in the fourth round. Guardiola made nine substitutions for the match, which took place two days after the contentious and exhausting match against Arsenal on Sunday. He acknowledges that the competition is not among his top priorities.

He stated, “I would anticipate that we will either play the players at the last minute or the second team in the upcoming round.” Certainly, we will not squander energy on this competition. I am uncertain about the outcome.

“I will play for the second team if I sustain numerous injuries. However, we will have the entire squad prepared, and it will be a beneficial competition for certain players to establish a rhythm.”

The Championship Hornets were ultimately defeated by City, who dominated the match and generated a multitude of opportunities, as a result of goals scored by Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes in the first half. Tom Ince made a magnificent strike in the 86th minute, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope; however, it was only a small consolation.

Tom Cleverley, the manager of Watford, was displeased to concede the opening goal to Doku after only five minutes. However, he believed that his team performed admirably in the subsequent minutes.

He stated, “As a coach, there is not much you can do to prevent the ball from being lost in such a straightforward situation, and you are apprehensive about the consequences.” However, it is not a subject that I wish to concentrate on. The goal was to increase our resilience, and I believe that we demonstrated this today, despite the fact that we did not do so in the first five minutes. We demonstrated a genuine resilience and appreciated the art of defending.

“We can be confident that we exerted the most effort against the most talented team in the world.”

“I implemented nine modifications, which demonstrated that all individuals are prepared to assume responsibility.” The players were determined to exhibit their best selves tonight, and they succeeded in doing so. This will provide me with some challenging situations for the weekend.
