Player linked with Real Madrid and PSG hints at prospective return to European football

Aymeric Laporte, a standout center-back for Al-Nassr, was one name that was mentioned in the rumor mill as Paris Saint-Germain sought to strengthen their defense this past summer.

Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, and PSG are among the European clubs that are vying for the Spaniard, according to José Alvarez Haya of El Chiringuito in August.

The report emphasizes PSG’s interest in the player, which is motivated by manager Luis Enrique’s aspiration to recruit Laporte to the club. From a sporting standpoint, this allegation was plausible, as Enrique served as the manager of Spain’s national team during Laporte’s participation.

However, Laporte seems to be suggesting that he may return to Europe, whether it be in January or next summer, now that the transfer window has closed for the majority of the top European divisions.

“In Saudi Arabia, I am far from my family and my environment,” Laporte stated. “We considered this during our visit, and we will undoubtedly need to consider it again in the future to determine whether I would like to return to Europe.”

The 30-year-old played for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia last season. However, it is unsurprising that there are European admirers for him, given his participation in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024-winning squad.

Laporte played for Athletic Club from 2012 to 2018 and subsequently Manchester City from 2018 to 2023 before departing for Saudi Arabia.
