BREAKING: Manchester United ready to demolish Old Trafford in the wake of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s U-turn as per multiple reports
It appears that INEOS, the proprietors of Manchester United, are planning to reverse their decision regarding Old Trafford.
Since the advent of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at the beginning of 2024, the future of Manchester United’s stadium, Old Trafford, has been the subject of extensive debate.
The Glazer family’s neglect of the historic ground has resulted in its current state of disrepair, which has been the subject of frequent criticism in recent years.
The primary arguments have been whether to renovate Old Trafford or construct a new stadium wholly. It is widely believed that the new administration favors the construction of a new stadium.
The concept of downsizing Old Trafford to serve as a stadium for the women’s team and the academy was also included in the plans to construct a new stadium, as evidenced by Manchester City’s impressive Etihad complex.
This concept was enthusiastically received by fans, particularly those of the women’s team, who are presently required to travel to Leigh Sports Village for home matches. Leigh Sports Village is a rugby stadium situated on the outskirts of Manchester, near Warrington.
This action would also guarantee the preservation of a location that is deeply cherished by supporters, as it would preserve a historic British landmark.
Nevertheless, the Daily Mail reports that INEOS is now preparing to abandon these plans, as they have determined that the concept of downscaling is unfeasible if they choose to construct a new stadium for the men’s team.
Club officials are of the opinion that the reduction would serve as a secondary initiative in addition to the estimated £2 billion investment necessary to finance the new construction.
This is yet another setback for the women’s team of the club, which has already been compelled to vacate their own training facilities in order to facilitate redevelopments on the men’s side of Carrington. Additionally, a number of critical players have left the team over the summer.
