Manchester City star set to start for England few weeks after being left out of squad for Euros 2024

According to talkSPORT, Jack Grealish is expected to commence Lee Carsley’s inaugural match as interim England manager, weeks after being excluded from the Euros.

Grealish has only appeared in one Premier League match this season; however, Carsley is prepared to support the Manchester City forward against the Republic of Ireland as England commence their Nations League campaign in Dublin.

After being capped by Ireland at the under-21 level before switching allegiances to England, Grealish, a former Aston Villa star, can anticipate a hostile reception from home supporters.

Grealish was one of the unexpected omissions from Gareth Southgate’s squad for Germany this summer.

Morgan Gibbs-White, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, is one of four uncapped players that Carsley has summoned. He is also optimistic about being included in the starting lineup.

In the problematic left-back position, Levi Colwill is expected to participate, while Harry Maguire is anticipated to start at centre-back.

Southgate, the Three Lions’ long-serving manager, resigned shortly after the team’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain in July. As a result, England is now beginning a new era without him.

Carsley was temporarily appointed as the Football Association evaluates its alternatives.

England Under-21s manager Carsley has been temporarily promoted to senior team manager as a result of the ongoing recruitment procedure for the next senior team manager by the Football Association.

Southgate initially rose from the under-21s on an interim basis to impress in that position. However, the former Republic of Ireland international has stated that this will not necessarily be the same.

“I don’t think by any means it’s a blueprint that just because you did the under-21s you’re in a perfect position to take the senior team,” Carsley stated.

“In the end, this is comparable to the most prestigious positions in the world of football.”

“We have the potential to have a unique period of time, which will soon pass. We have some exceptional players and some incredible talent. Someone must harness their full potential.”

“We have achieved so much thus far because we have reached the final stages of tournaments and have been so close.” “The role will be performed by the most qualified individual.”

Carsley regards himself as a “reliable individual” for the upcoming Nations League matches this autumn, which commence with a match against Ireland on September 7 and conclude with a match against Finland at Wembley.

The 50-year-old’s enthusiasm for leading England was evident during the squad announcement on Thursday; however, he consistently avoided enquiries regarding his desire for the permanent position.

“To be frank, I have not given it much consideration,” Carsley stated. “In all honesty, I have not.”

I am simply concerned with performing my duties to the best of my ability. I would not be overly concerned about the best individual, regardless of whether it is me or not.

“I was and continue to be extremely proud of my role as the head coach of the under-21 team.” I am extremely fond of that position. The work is exceptional.

“I have a fantastic team and a fantastic staff.” I would be more than content to transfer it to whoever if it were to conclude immediately upon my departure.

“I understand my objectives for the next three months and that’s to do as well as we can in the Nations League.”

Carsley claims that the FA has not enquired about his interest in a position that was advertised on its website with a deadline of August 2.

The weblink now indicates that applications for this position are no longer being accepted.
