Manchester United
Manchester United playing club’s most loved player out of position is more harmful than it appears. SEE REASON HERE
Diogo Dalot, a fan darling, has started each game at left-back for Manchester United, despite the team’s subpar start to the season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was deployed at left-back for Manchester United in the spring, despite the fact that it appeared that Diogo Dalot would be the most suitable choice due to his versatility and attributes.
In the circumstances, the majority of fans would have preferred Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Dalot at left-back. However, Erik ten Hag held a different opinion and was circumspect when questioned about the decision.
Ten Hag stated, “I am unable to delve too deeply into that fact.” “However, they possess both their abilities and their contributions to the team, which is why we have a clear understanding of the ideal situation.” Occasionally, we must make adjustments to this, but it has been working exceptionally well recently. We are committed to maintaining this consistency with Diogo and Garnacho on the right side, as they have a connection.
Additionally, I am aware that Diogo maintains an excellent rapport with Antony. Therefore, it is our preference to maintain these practices, which is why I have recently opted for this partnership. To ensure that Diogo remains on the right side, Azza has recently performed exceptionally well on the left side.
Ten Hag provided as much information as he could, and it appeared that the underlying assumption was that Dalot was performing so well on the right that it would be unjust to disrupt his cadence.
Dalot has been adept at playing left-back at various points in his career, but Wan-Bissaka was selected to play there for the first time in his career last season.
When Wan-Bissaka was initially performed in January, it is reasonable to assume that suspicions were raised. He is an exceptional one-on-one defender; however, his technical proficiency is not particularly well-known, which implies that he may encounter difficulties when attempting to play in a position that he has never previously occupied.
During the September international break, Wan-Bissaka has departed for West Ham, and Dalot has started each Premier League game against Fulham, Brighton, and Liverpool at left-back. Noussair Mazraoui, a recent acquisition, has been deployed on the right side of the defence.
Mazraoui was recruited due to his adaptability, according to sources. However, he has been assigned to the right-back position, which has resulted in Dalot appearing somewhat disoriented in the first few matches of the season.Despite Dalot’s extensive experience as a left-back, his attacking potential is diminished when he is not deployed on the right, and Mazraoui is not adequately compensating for this.
The fact that Ten Hag was so adamant about playing Dalot on the right at the beginning of the year that he played Wan-Bissaka in a position he had never played to keep him there was a statement in itself. Consequently, it has been intriguing to observe Dalot at left-back this term.
Nevertheless, Mazraoui is at ease on the left side, and it appears that the most viable course of action is to deploy him there and transfer Dalot to the right side when the game resumes following the international break.
The 25-year-old is frequently observed making overlapping passes and crossing the ball with his right foot when he begins on the left, whereas he is unable to be as effective.
In the initial match, Dalot encountered difficulty with Adama Traore, a pacy winger from Fulham. He demonstrated improvement against Brighton, but his performance suffered a setback against Liverpool’s fluid and impressive attack.
Dalot was unable to prevent Mohamed Salah from providing the assists for Luis Diaz’s brace, and Mazraoui’s positioning was questionable throughout the game, including for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s disallowed goal, despite the fact that Casemiro’s errors were the catalyst for Liverpool’s goals in the first half.
Based on the evidence of the games thus far, it is logical to experiment with Dalot at right-back and Mazraoui on the other side against Southampton, provided that Luke Shaw is not reinstated in the squad.
Dalot was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year award for his consistently exceptional performances during the previous season. It is anticipated that he will revert to his most advantageous position in the near future.
