BREAKING: Three England star players withdraw from Lee Carsley’s team for the Nations League games. Reason is alarming
Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins have withdrawn from Lee Carsley’s squad for the Three Lions’ two Nations League matches this month.
The Euro 2024 runners-up will commence their absence from Gareth Southgate by travelling to the Republic of Ireland on Saturday and then welcoming Finland to Wembley three days later.
Carsley has been appointed on a provisional basis and has selected a 26-man squad for the Nations League double-header in this month. However, three players have been forced to withdraw from his England selection.
England’s imminent UEFA Nations League fixtures will not feature Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, or Phil Foden, according to a statement from the Football Association.
On Tuesday, the Three Lions squad arrived at St George’s Park. However, Palmer and Watkins were subsequently assessed and returned to their respective clubs to continue their rehabilitation for persistent issues.
“Due to illness, Foden was unable to report for the matches against Finland and the Republic of Ireland.”
At this time, there are no additional additions set to be made.
England’s visit to the Aviva Stadium occurs merely 55 days after Southgate’s team suffered a narrow defeat in their second consecutive European Championship final.
Following the 2-1 defeat to Spain in Berlin, the long-serving manager abruptly terminated his eight-year tenure. Carsley, the manager of the England Under-21s, was appointed to the position as the FA pursued a permanent replacement.
The 50-year-old, who played for Ireland, has been scheduled to oversee all six Nations League matches this autumn.
Carsley recently coached a number of talented players at the Under-21 level and provided an explanation for his squad selection last week.
“I have had the opportunity to work with the majority of the squad, whether as a manager or assistant coach of the Under-21s,” he stated.
“I also desired to surround myself with staff members who are familiar with my work style and the manner in which I envision the camp to operate.” The individuals who have been summoned are truly thrilling, and the phone calls were a pleasure to conduct.
Carsley further elaborated on Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, and Noni Madueke, stating, “Morgan is a highly creative, energetic, and thrilling attacking player.” He is extremely challenging to play against due to his exceptional work ethic and positive attitude. He has achieved considerable success with England.
“A significant number of the players we have summoned are accustomed to achieving success.” Morgan and Angel have been a part of squads that have won the Under-17s World Cup and the Under-21 Euros.
“Angel is distinct from the midfielders we have previously observed.” He is not the traditional physical, robust midfielder; rather, he is highly technical and adept at managing the game. He possesses an exceptional demeanour, and I anticipate that he will be a player that elicits enthusiasm from the audience.
“Noni has had a great start to the season with Chelsea and can contribute a bit of energy and enthusiasm.”
Carlsey stated of the exclusion of Kyle Walker and the inclusion of Harry Maguire, “It is crucial that the players are prepared and up-to-date.” Kyle has yet to appear for Manchester City, which implies that they are gradually integrating him into the team.
“We desired to select players who have minutes remaining in their legs.” These are two challenging diversions. That was my initial thought. I am not in a position to exclude players who are not involved; therefore, I cannot do so.
“I regard Harry Maguire as an exceptional leader.” Harry and John [Stones] will serve as an excellent example for our new defenders, including Levi Colwill and Marc Guehi.
