Chris Kavanagh seems to have committed a major error during the Arsenal vs Brighton clash as well as Declan Rice red card

In the noontime kick-off at the Emirates, Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion faced off, both teams eager to maintain their unblemished streak.

It concluded in a deadlock between the two parties. Arsenal, lead by Mikel Arteta, emerged victorious in the first half thanks to Kai Havertz’s striker. However, Brighton restored parity in the second half with Joao Pedro.

There was considerable discussion regarding Arsenal’s pursuit of Ivan Toney on deadline day, as a striker was being considered; however, he ultimately agreed to a transfer to Al-Ahli.

Kai Havertz’s second goal of the season in the Premier League silenced any doubters who believed the club required a striker.

However, Arsenal faced a minor concern when Martin Odegaard sustained an injury during the first half. Despite this, he continued and is expected to recover without incident. Nevertheless, it may be prudent to monitor his condition.

Ethan Nwaneri is the sole viable alternative for the Gunners, and he is exceedingly inexperienced.

The game was somewhat contentious due to a significant judgement that Chris Kavanagh had to make in the first half.

Lewis Dunk appeared to handle the ball from a Ben White shot, which appeared to have stopped a definite goal. It was VAR that potentially made an error earlier in the game.

The contest was broadcast on BT Sport, and the footage was shared on social media.

Declan Rice was issued a second yellow card for allegedly kicking the ball away, necessitating a significant judgement from Chris Kavanagh.

During the first half, the midfielder was issued a yellow card for a challenge on Joel Veltman. Kavanagh decided to issue Rice his second yellow card for what he perceived as striking the ball away.

Nevertheless, this appears to be an overly harsh punishment, as Rice scarcely touches the ball when it is already at his feet, and Veltman elects to kick it straight through him.

In reality, the athlete who was supposed to be departing the pitch is sporting a Brighton shirt.

Listen, we are all in favour of referees punishing players for squandering time and being a nuisance when they really don’t need to be, but Declan Rice did very little wrong.

The ball is launched into his path as he is walking away from Veltman, and it is literally the tiniest of touches from Rice, unlike many of the unpunished incidents you see of players kicking the ball much further.

If anything, Veltman should have been issued his marching orders for kickouting at Rice. The swing path of his leg was not even close to making contact with the ball, and it was evident that his objective was to cause Rice harm.

Certainly, there will always be varying interpretations, but it is not permissible to publicly humiliate an individual when the object was not even in play.

In a live interview with BT Sport, Ally McCoist also expressed his belief that Veltman should have been the one to be sent off.
